From Yesterday to Today…

Greenway Spirit & Word Fellowship was originally located in the area known as Double Tollgate in White Post, Virginia (Clarke County). The land was deeded to the United Brethren Church in 1898 and was later used by Presbyterians, Mennonites, Methodist and Southern Baptist.

Greenway was first organized as a Mission in Stephens City, Virginia; under the direction of Calvary Baptist Church of Winchester, Virginia. The first service was held on April 17, 1965. Greenway was constituted as a church on August 18, 1967; with 28 charter members. The church was accepted into the Shenandoah Association on October 5, 1967.

The original building and land were purchased by the Southern Baptist on August 10, 1968; from the United Brethren Church (EUB) for the sum of $1,000.00. Only the sanctuary existed at that time. As a Southern Baptist church, the first service was held on August 18, 1968. On August 9, 1969; ground was broken and footers started for additions to the original building. By August 1971, four Sunday School rooms, two baths and a kitchen were finished to the point that they could be used. The baptistery was officially dedicated on September 28, 1975.

Over the next 27 years the people of Greenway would experience spiritual growth and renewal that would see additions to the originally building, people saved and baptized. Although there would be moments of “Ups & Downs”, the people of Greenway would strive to serve the Lord for HIS Glory. There would be a period of years where Greenway would have no permanent Pastor; as the members would rise up to continue God’s call for the church.

In the year of 2002, the members of Greenway would find themselves thirsty and hungry for more of God. After a number of years without a Pastor (God-Called Shepherd) and the faithful remnant holding the church together they would have a new Pastor who would lead the congregation into the presence and fullness of God. Robert Vineyard (Senior Pastor) would preach at the first service with 20 in attendance.

Within months Greenway would see people saved and baptized on a regular basis. As a greater understanding of the power, fruit and gifts of the Holy Spirit were embraced; an explosion of growth began to occur and outgrow the location at Double Tollgate. The Lord would direct Greenway to a 5-acre lot located on Tasker Road in Stephens City, VA (current location). Although the lot was originally not for sale, God would open the door for the land to be purchased. A 15,000 sq. foot facility would be built on the land that would see the growth filled to its capacity shortly thereafter. Immediately Greenway would recognize the need to continue its process of growth as we are currently looking into the necessary steps to build a new 1,000 seat sanctuary.

Greenway Spirit & Word Fellowship is a Bapticostal congregation. We are a holy merging of the evangelical and the Spirit filled parts of the body of Christ.

Robert Vineyard (Senior Pastor) has faithfully served God since March of 1976. Pastor Bob studied at Glenville State College, Tennessee Temple University, Appalachian Bible College and Bethany Theological Seminary. He holds Bachelor’s in both Bible and Ministry. He also holds a Master’s in Ministry. Pastor Bob and his wife Christy have five children and three grandchildren.

STATEMENT OF FAITH...
We Believe that the Bible is the verbal inspiration and infallible Word of God.

We Believe in one God eternally existing in three persons; namely, the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

We Believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father and born of the Virgin Mary.

We Believe in the sinless life of Jesus, His miracles, His death at the crucifixion, His burial, His bodily resurrection from the dead, and in His ascension back to the Father’s right hand as the Intercessor for believers.

We Believe in the second coming of Jesus Christ to rule and reign in power and glory.

We Believe that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and that repentance is necessary for the salvation of lost man.

We Believe in salvation for everyone who will call upon the name of the Lord through repentance of sins, hope for the hopeless, love for those who have hate, light in a dark world and life instead of death.

We Believe that our justification, regeneration, and the new birth are wrought by the Holy Spirit through simple faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ, by His blood.

We Believe in the baptism with the Holy Spirit that indwells in the believer to enable a life that can be victorious and demonstrate Christ-like maturity.

We Believe in the ministry of the Holy Spirit through the operation of the gifts of the Spirit that are described in the New Testament for the encouragement of all believers to exercise their spiritual gifts for the edification of the body of Christ. No gift is greater, required, or more important than the other. Each gift has its purpose in the Kingdom of God.

We Believe in the fruit of the Spirit as taught in the New Testament.

We Believe in divine healing that is provided for all through the sufferings of Christ.

We Believe in the bodily resurrection that those who have salvation will experience eternity unto life and glory. Those that deny Christ will experience eternal death and damnation in eternity.

We Believe in water baptism by immersion in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost for an outward confession for individuals who have accepted a faith in Christ.

We Believe that Communion is a sacred supper that those who follow Christ partake of the body of Christ in remembrance of His sacrifice.

We Believe that with all things concerning life, there must be love.
